Who are we?

The Broken Clock is an undergraduate student magazine at the University of Iowa. Founded in 2021, The Broken Clock strives to highlight works from students on campus that focus on the aspects of time, whether it be literally or metaphorically.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, and playing Legend of Zelda games. She is grateful for the experience of working with the team of The Broken Clock and looks forward to the next volume.

📖Editor Kiara Lingenfelter is a third-year English and Creative Writing major. She likes reading and also The Broken Clock (too obvious?). Her hobbies include playing D&D, procrastinating so hard it disrupts the space-time continuum, and watching cartoons.

📖Reader David Gaunt is a third-year student studying Creative Writing at the University of Iowa. If he had free time, it'd most likely be spent on video games like League or Monster Hunter, or reading some fantasy book or another, probably with dragons and/or wizards. Writing happens too, in that other free time he doesn't have. And finally, D&D fills in all the leftover nooks and crannies in his schedule.

📖Reader Kat Reagan (they/them) is a third-year student studying English and Creative Writing on the Publishing track and pursuing a certificate in Medieval Studies. Their favorite authors are Tamsyn Muir and V.E. Schwab. They enjoy researching inconsequential subjects, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and pestering their friends about both of those things.

📖Reader Larisa (she/they) is a first-year student studying English at the University of Iowa. She has a soft spot for Gothic and Victorian fiction, and she loves reading about Greek mythology, Irish folklore, and Tudor England. In her free time, she can often be found rewatching old TV shows instead of starting her backlog of new ones, or walking around campus listening to Taylor Swift and Hozier. She is very excited to work on the next issue of The Broken Clock with the rest of the team.

🪶Editor Maia is a third year sociology major from Boise, Idaho. In her free time she enjoys listening to albums, reading and writing. She enjoys working on the Broken Clock and is passionate about poetry.

🪶 Reader Katherine (she/her) is a third-year student at the University of Iowa. She is majoring in English and Creative Writing and is pursuing a minor in Anthropology. She loves reading and writing but also dabbles in other art forms like painting, embroidery, theatre, and playing various musical instruments.

🪶Reader Jinx is a first-year student studying English and Creative Writing. They enjoy playing guitar and Dungeons and Dragons in their free time, as well as struggling to learn German and Japanese.
